Biomedical Science Day

bms day 2024

We are pleased to announce that #BiomedicalScienceDay2024 will be taking place on Thursday 6 June

The day of celebration and professional promotion was conceived in May 2017 as biomedical science professionals felt that the profession was not being promoted, and their hard work was not being celebrated enough.

For each of the past seven years, hundreds of event packs have been posted to members containing pin badges, stickers, leaflets, posters, Superlab comics, pens and placards for social media and photo competitions. For this year, these packs will be available to order soon.

Activity Fund

If you are planning to organise events for Biomedical Science Day, consider applying for the Biomedical Science Day Activity Fund. The fund will provide grants of up to £500 for IBMS members to develop their biomedical science related activities and events.

Activities should aim to raise public awareness of biomedical science and demonstrate the value of the profession and its role in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infections and disease.

Digital resources

For those who don’t secure an event pack, there will be an array of digital resources free to members, including downloadable posters, placards, banners and comics.

There is also a series of become a biomedical scientist and sample journey videos and a short introductory video for children about how biomedical science is at the heart of everybody’s healthcare.

Competitions

As part of the IBMS bid to raise awareness of the vital role of biomedical science in healthcare, on the day we are encouraging biomedical science staff across the country to celebrate and showcase their workplaces, colleagues, expertise and team spirit to the public.

We accept individual selfies, group photos and artistic shots. For the bravest in the workforce, there is even a video competition – sing-alongs and comedy shorts are expected to be the flavour of the day.

There are 10 awards up for grabs (see below for details) and the top photos and video from each category will receive an award.

With this content, members should always make sure there are no confidential details visible whilst maintaining workplace health and safety regulations and ensuring they have permission to take photos from both senior management and anyone appearing in the images.
